Readers—I’ve got news. The Starbucks in Old Pasadena (on Colorado and Delacy) is now serving beer and wine. Yes, you read correctly. Beer. Wine. And, for those of you not participating in alcoholic beverages, a new additional menu. Can we say, huzzah?

According to Starbucks, the reason for their evenings program is this: “The place you love during the day now has more reasons to love it at night.” It’s true. Unlike the busy bar scene or overcrowded happy hour, Starbucks offers a more relaxed and familiar setting to wind down in. Plus, if you’re a regular, the staff already knows you by name. (Who can beat friendly service?)

So, what’s an evenings experience look like? Here it is. The new menu is available all day. And the sale of beer and wine begins at 4pm. Every day. No reservations required. The vibe is great—order at the register, flash them an I.D., then grab a seat. The staff will bring your glass and any new food item straight to you. Want another glass? No sweat. Stay seated. A barista will come around, asking for drink orders.

Already, I’ve sampled a glass of their cabernet ($9), their parmesan crusted chicken skewers and their bacon-wrapped dates. Oh. My. Goodness. The chicken comes with a perfectly tangy honey Dijon sauce and the dates? Drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Both were the perfect “bite” alongside my wine.

Since I know the manager here (he’s my husband), I’ve heard rumblings about Starbucks hosting live music, even a DJ, among other evening activities. So stay tuned for upcoming events. For now, drop by for a glass of beer or wine any time after 4pm and get to know your new favorite afterwork hang out.
