Located in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, Monrovia is a cozy neighborhood full of tree-lined streets, single-family homes, quaint boutiques, and unique restaurants. It’s charming; it’s quaint; it’s reminiscent of Andy Griffith’s home town. With low crime rates and a great sense of community, Monrovia offers residents a safe place to live, work, and play.

The city was incorporated in 1887 and named after its most important settler—William Monroe. Today, the town has close to 40,000 residents, a thriving downtown, town square, beautiful parks, and several public and private schools.

Monrovia’s Old Town, located on Myrtle Ave., is where neighbors gather to work and play. Along Myrtle there are dozens of unique restaurants, boutiques, even a 12-screen movie palace. Free parking allows for lengthy evening strolls, while activities like the Friday night street fairs give families a place to relax together. (That’s right, every Friday night from March through Christmas, Myrtle Ave. turns into “the largest street fair of its kind in the state.” There’s live music, crafts and food booths, along with a certified farmer’s market.)

Also perfect for families is the city’s beautiful 28,000 square-foot public library. The building is Silver LEEDS certified and houses adult, children, and teen areas, a large community room, heritage room, and technology space. A band shell and playground share the grounds of the library, along with shaded walkways and veterans memorials, which makes this entire area, or “town square,” a quiet place to stop amidst the bustling city.
