Located on W Green Street in Old Pasadena, YogaWorks opened its Pasadena studios in 2012. It’s got classes; it’s got workshops; it’s got a retail boutique. Basically, it’s got it all. And not only for experienced yoga students but for beginners as well. That’s right; classes range from level 1 (understanding yoga postures and breathing techniques) and level 1-2 (building on fundamental postures introduced in level 1), to level 2 (expanding on your strength, stamina, and flexibility), level 2-3 (practicing physically demanding and challenging sequences), and level 3 (hitting difficult poses at the highest level of yoga).
Along with yoga classes, YogaWorks offers other styles of exercise, including BarWorks, Pilates, SculptWorks, TRX, and DanceWorks. There are also yoga retreats, workshops, and private lessons; plus, the boutique has a great selection of yoga essentials. Stop by any day of the week for a schedule and information on memberships. YogaWorks is open Monday through Sunday.
According to its website, “Bikram Yoga is the original and authentic Hot Yoga. We are not a fad, we have been healing bodies and changing lives since 1998. We have been voted best yoga program by the readers of the Pasadena Weekly 5 of the last 7 years. We are also an independently owned and operated business.” Talk about a good thing, huh? Bikram Yoga is located in Pasadena on Colorado Blvd. The studio is set at 105 degrees with 40% humidity and is cleaned twice daily. Why the heat, you may ask? To “warm the muscles and allow deeper yet safer yoga work.”
Everything about it sounds good. Benefits include less stress, better blood circulation, and a stronger and more flexible body. Just be prepared for a 90 minute class. And come well hydrated. To receive the maximum benefits, students are encouraged to participate in class three times a week.
Their community class on Saturdays at 3pm are $15. Otherwise, single classes start at $25 and memberships range from weekly to monthly passes.
